Understand Pregnancy

From the moment you know you’re pregnant, it is natural for there to be worry in a first time mom’s mind! Worrying is natural, it starts even before your baby arrives. Once he or she is there, everything becomes an even bigger worry! Failing to get a big burp out of your baby? Sure that you will fall prey to all potential breast feeding problems? Putting on your babies diaper on backwards and not even noticing? Stop stressing! You are already a natural at caring for your baby, maternal instinct is not a myth! Just remind yourself that you are a first time parent with little prior experience in most things to do with babies! You can’t be expected to know it all in baby care. Mistakes are a right of every parent, and really, your baby is very forgiving! Your little one won’t even notice your inexperience and most definitely won’t remember all the things you will be giving yourself a lot of grief over.

There are enough books and family around to tell you all you need to know on all newborns! From belching techniques to trimming nails to umbilical cord stump care. Having said that, there is such a thing as too much information! You’ll want to study up on the basics, but try to resist the urge to find out about every little complication that could come up with your baby.

Baby feet

The more you learn about caring for your baby, the more you get to know about your babies quirks and the more comfortable you will start to feel in your new-mom shoes. Before you know it, you will be doing everything from changing diapers to bathing your baby without batting an eye!

Babies grow faster than you can imagine, but one thing stays the same; Mother (hey, that’s you!) knows best. That being said, don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it, and lots of it — whether it’s tapping an experienced mommy friend for suggestions or asking your mother and mother-in-law to babysit (and it’s totally okay to sneak in some much-needed shut-eye while Grandma’s on duty).

Baby in the park

So whether you’re a laid-back lady looking for a few first-time parenting pointers or you worried throughout your entire pregnancy (both are completely normal), when it comes down to it, you want to do as much right as possible for your precious newborn. Luckily, with a little practice (and you'll get plenty of that) and some extra guidance (just keep on reading and asking those experienced around you), you'll be a pro in no time!
